According to Scientists at Columbia University's Presbyterian Medical Center, high-density negative ions proved to be effective in treating seasonal depression. The results were published in the Journal of Complimentary Medicine in January 1995. The results of this study were shown on CBS World News with Dan Rather and Connie Chung on Feb. 14, 1995. Benefits: Ionization: Negative ions are charged atoms created in nature by sunlight, moving water and moving air. These neg ions are beneficial to the environment and humans because they attract dust, pollens, mold spores and viruses, etc., together, and these groups of particles are then pulled to the earth surface by electrostatic forces. The result is clean, fresh smelling air. Negative ions are neutralized by car exhaust, factory fumes, smoke, dust, soot, synthetic building and clothing materials, and metal ductwork.
Advantage: In addition to helping reduce depression and helping you get a good night's sleep, negative ions are instrumental in removing the following airborne contaminants: Pollen, Odors, Mold spores, Viruses, Bacteria, Pet Dander, Dust and Dust Mites, Cigarette Smoke, Toxic Chemical Fumes. 12/01/03: Ions Protect in I.C.U. The results of the Columbia University Study, cited above, were published in the Journal of Alternative and Complimentary Medicine in January, 1995. The results of the study suggest that the Wein VI-2500 negative ion generator has the ability to alleviate certain forms of depression, anxiety and stress, and fatigue.
Dr. Igho Kornbluch, of the American Institute of Medical Climatology, found that negative ions can have a dramatic tranquilizing effect in cases of severe pain.
Northeastern Hospital's Dr. Robert McGowan states, "Negative ions make burns dry out faster, heal faster and with less scarring. They also reduce the need for skin-grafting. They make the patient more optimistic. He sleeps better."
Experiments by Dr. Albert Krueger and Dr. Richard Smith at the University of California have shown how ionization affects those sensitive to air-born allergens. These doctors exposed tracheal and bronchial tissue to negative ions, and it was found that the cilia(tiny filaments that line this tissue) increased the speed of their beating, whip-like motion from 900 beats per minute to 1200, and that mucus flow was also increased. Doses of positive ions had the opposite effect: ciliary beat slowed to 600 per minute or less and the flow of mucus also dropped.
Researchers also believe that negative ions may stimulate the reticulo-endothelial system, a group of defense cells in our bodies which marshall resistance to disease.
The VI-2500 emits over 200 trillion ions per second, and can therefore handle larger areas(up to 800 sq. ft.) and more difficult conditions(like computer screens, strong odors, more particulate pollution, etc.)
